PROFILE

Introduction

            The department provides training to BHMS students in gynecology and obstetrics during second and third year of course. The department provides comprehensive health services to women of all age groups

Facilities:

            The department museum displays charts, gynecological instruments, wet specimens, clay models, and pelvic bones for easier and better study regarding subject.

            Department library has around 60 text books for reference and has national and international journals

Under Graduate Education:

            The course of study under this department extend over period of 2 years during second and third BHMS. Department supports medical students with lectures, demonstration, seminars and integrated teaching during second and third year. Theory teaching done using Power point presentation; videos; demonstrations with specimens, dummy and pelvis.

            Students are exposed to clinical hours which are conducted 4 days in a week. Bed side clinics – students will take the cases which present in female ward and will discuss about the diagnosis, investigations, general management, remedial management and the prognosis of the cases

In third BHMS Students are taken to NSS Medical Mission Hospital, Pandalam to attend gynecological and obstetrics related cases and also attend labours and operations for duration of 1 month and students submit 10 cases each in gynecology and obstetrics to the department

During the internship students are working in the gynecology OPD and IPD for 2 months duration.

OPD/IPD

            We provide op/ip facilities in our college hospital and collegiate Govt hospital. All the gynecological conditions like fibroids, endometriosis, prolapsed, PID, CIN, endometrial hyperplasia, hormonal disorder, pcod, pregnancy related disease etc, are treated in the OPD.

            Moreover an infertility OPD functions under the department on all fridays, both male and female cases are managed here, infertility cases are managed only with medicines alone. The gynecological OPD (general) functions on all Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays in college hospital and on all Mondays and Thursdays at collegiate govt hospital. The college hospital also serves with IP department with 25 bed and 24 hours caring environment. College Hospital has well equipped laboratory, X-Ray and USG facilities.
